If you are a true citizen of the Philippines, you have seen a Kariton. Whether you were driving on your way to work or just walking in the streets of Manila, you have one way or another seen a kariton.
A Kariton is a simple pushcart made of any scrap materials such as galvanized roofing or old wood. Simple as it may be, the kariton has served as the source of many of our filipinos income. They use this pushcart as a way to sell an assortment of goods to anyone looking for a quick, small, or refreshing snack. The kariton is very convinient for that purpose because you can move it from one place to another. The Kariton was recognised world wide when our very own, Efren Peneflorida used it in a very unconventional and ingenious way. He used it as a means to educate those who didn't have the opportunity to study at schools. This idea of his was labelled as the "Kariton Klasrum" which earned him the CNN Hero of the year award, back in 2009.
Though the kariton is a very simple object, we can see that it has a big impact on our Filipino culture and the lives of many filipinos. Like us, it is simple and humble yet capable of doing so much.
