One thing the Philippines is known for is the food. Delicous savory dishes accompanied by rice is a classic Pinoy favorite. Desserts that are too, made of rice. But many international restaurants are beginning to take over. So, I searched for my favorite local non-rice desserts that will give any fancy international dessert a run for its money!
First things first, we have got to start with a chocolate dessert. There's absolutely no competition here- Ms. Polly's Specialty Cakes' Garilao! Do you know the expression "You're missing half your life if you don't try it"? or "You haven't lived until you've tried this"? I know, I know it may be a little extreme, but this cake is just something you wouldn't wanna miss out on. Moist, Chocolatey cake with a generous layer of rich chocolate icing. Not too sweet, not too bitter, just perfect. There are no words that could possibly describe how good that chocolate cake is, so I'll stop trying. Now moving onto the next dessert- Aggy's Frozen Brazo. Aghhh! Its everything you would want in a non-chocolate dessert. Dare I say- you won't be missing the chocolate with this one. A thick layer of eggs whites (meringue), ice cream, and crushed graham crackers.... drool. This one is a classic that you can whip up in your very own home! I've only had it a few times at actual establishments because most of the time, its served as dessert at gatherings. The Mango Ice Box. Yep. No matter how many versions you make of this classic- ice cream, with chocolate, lady fingers; NOTHING, and I mean nothing will beat the original-condensed milk, cream, mango, and crushed graham.
I don't know about you but I'm absolutely craving for all these desserts! Who needs a slice of cake that costs 350 when you can get a whole box for the same price, even more delicious, and made with a ton more love!
